Hardware Product Owner Medtech

Background:
As an Agile Team Product Owner (PO) for Instrument Development, you will bridge the gap between visionary product strategy and technical execution. You are responsible for defining “the what and the why for our physical medical devices. You will work in a cross-functional team (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Firmware, Verification& Validation) to deliver life-changing hardware that meets the highest standards of safety, usability, and regulatory compliance.

The perfect candidate: is someone with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) and a proven track record as a Product Owner or Project Lead in a hardware-driven environment, ideally within MedTech or Healthcare. The ideal candidate brings strong systems engineering expertise, including the ability to define and estimate complex work packages and navigate the constraints of physical product development. They possess solid negotiation skills to protect team focus, excel at bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders, and are familiar with Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) in regulated hardware environments. Experience with Azure DevOps, SAP, and Google tools, as well as fluency in English and German, is required.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Vision & Strategy: In collaboration with the Product Manager define the vision for the component/system/product and ensure the agile team understands it.
  • Requirements Engineering & User Collaboration: Translate the high-level needs into actionable User Stories (Definition of the “what”)
  • Backlog & Prioritization: Manage and prioritize the Team/Product Backlog. Estimation of User Stories with the agile team.
  • Overseeing scoping and prioritization during all stages of product creation. Ensure the scope stays aligned with the Definition of Done (DoD).

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical) or a related technical field. 
  • Experience/ Proven track record as a Product Owner or Project Lead in a hardware-centric environment, ideally within the MedTech or Healthcare industry.
  • Technical and Systems Engineering Expertise: Strong ability to define and estimate complex work packages in an engineering context. Familiarity with the constraints of physical product development (tooling, BOM, lead times) compared to pure software Cycles. 
  • Good negotiation skills to protect the team's focus. 
  • Exceptional ability to bridge the gap between technical engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders or clients.
  • Methodology: Knowledge of Agile frameworks (SAFe/Scrum/Kanban) and their application in regulated hardware environments.
  • Familiar with Azure DevOps / SAP / Google tools
  • Languages: Fluency in English and German (written and spoken) is required.
